Fathers & Families is a Massachusetts 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization of 1,800 men and women who believe that a child's best interests are most often met with two actively involved parents. Our membership includes divorced and unwed fathers, second wives, grandparents, extended family, professionals and other individuals interested in compelling social issues.

Directors and Officers

Dr. Ned Holstein, M.D, M.S.
Chair of the Board and Founder
Ned is a divorced father of two adult children and is the custodial parent of his third child, a senior in college. Ned graduated from Harvard College, then obtained a Masters degree from M.I.T. before attending Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He next trained at what was then Boston City Hospital. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai and is a nationally recognized expert in his field. He lives in Auburndale.

 

David W. Brasington
Member of the Board and Secretary
Dave is the divorced father of two children. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, and served as an officer in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Dave is now a principal with a full-service real estate company that provides commercial property management, leasing and brokerage services to the real estate industry. He resides in Worcester.

 

Samuel D. Perry
Member of the Board
Sam is a divorced father with three children. After graduating from Harvard College and earning his MBA at Boston University, he has worked continuously for over thirty years as an Investment Consultant with Scudder in Boston. Following this company's acquisition by Deutsche Bank in 2002, he became a Vice President with Deutsche Investment Management Americas, Inc. He is also a Trustee of King's Chapel and serves on the Chestnut Hill Historic District Commission. He resides in Chestnut Hill.

 

Daniel B. Hogan, J.D., Ph.D.
Member of the Board
Dan is the divorced father of one son and two daughters. He graduated from Yale University and has graduate degrees from Harvard Law School and Harvard's Department of Psychology. He has spent most of his life as a management consultant with occasional stints on the Harvard Faculty. He is the author of four books on The Regulation of Psychotherapists. Dan is an avid squash player and made the finals of the National Championships in 2004 and 2005. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

 

Ronald Lee Fleming
Member of the Board
Ron Fleming is a divorced father of three children. He received his Master’s Degree in City Planning from Harvard University and is a member of the American Institute of City Planners. As the President of The Townscape Institute, he has worked as a design advocate, practitioner and educator for more than thirty years. In addition to being the author of numerous books on urban planning, Ron was one of the initiators of the national “Main Street” movement to revitalize downtown areas through an awareness of and respect for community character. Ron is currently an active board member of Scenic America, the Preservation Society for Newport County and Save Venice. He resides in Cambridge MA and Newport RI.

 

Bruce Rogers
Member of the Board
Bruce is a divorced father of two teenage sons. He is president of Virtual, Inc., a Massachusetts company that manages business operations for global industry associations and professional societies. He has also spent more than two decades providing public relations counsel to corporations, associations and senior executives. Bruce earned a bachelor’s degree from Colby College a master’s degree from Boston University. He lives in Ipswich.

Rita Fuerst Adams
Philanthropic Consultant
Rita Fuerst Adams, CFRE, President, Charitable and Philanthropic Management Counsel, has consulted with Fathers & Families since the year 2000. The focus of her work is raising contributions, but she also provides us with management and organizational development expertise. Rita is a catalyst— teaching and counseling volunteers, contributors, and staff in setting and achieving goals. She specializes in new and emerging not-for-profit organizations. Rita started Charitable and Philanthropic Management Counsel in 1997. She has more than twenty years experience in not-for-profit management, organizational development, and fundraising.

 

Jed Hresko
Deputy Director
Jed has broad operational and leadership experience with non-profit and activist organizations. Jed's main area of focus prior to joining Fathers & Families has been high-risk youth. He directed a $6 million Youth Opportunity grant for the City of Boston; was a Senior Streetworker in the city's gang outreach program; and was Director of Development at the Ella J. Baker House. Jed is a divorced father of 2 school-aged boys and has shared custody.

 

Tiffany Wagaman
Executive Administrative Assistant
Before coming to Fathers & Families, Tiffany was an intern for The Children’s Home of Reading where she worked with children with mental health and behavioral challenges. Tiffany is a graduate of Alvernia College where she was an active member of the college community as the President of Psi Chi, Treasurer of the Psychology Club, and captain of the women’s tennis team. In 2007, she earned her Master’s degree in Psychology from Boston University. She is originally from Pennsylvania and now lives in Boston.

Volunteer - Activity List Coordinator
Bill Zamzow, a member of Fathers & Families since 2001, has for years produced our weekly Family Activities List. This document is relied upon by hundreds of our members to help plan lots of enjoyable, as well as educational, events to share with their children. Bill also supports the areas of parent education and is on the Legislative Affairs Committee. He has worked in the financial services industry for years. Bill is a divorced father with one daughter.

Alan came to the US. in 2001 from his country, Ethiopia. He was a second year law student at Boston's New England School of Law when he worked with us in the spring and summer of 2004. He has a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from Addis Ababa University. He moved to Boston from the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

Marian is recently re-married, mother of one, stepmother of nine, and grandmother of six. She is working on her masters degree in Community Counseling from Gordon-Conwell in Boston. She recently relocated from Vancouver Island, Canada where she was the Co-Executive Director of Big Brothers & Big Sisters.

 

Asim Siddiqi
Information Technology Intern
Asim worked for Fathers & Families for more than 2 years while pursuing his M.S. from Northeastern University in Information Systems. He has a B.A. in Business Management, with a concentration in Information Systems, from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Asim is originally from Accra, Ghana. Asim was of invaluable assistance to us with all IT functions, Web development, and computer software and hardware issues.

Ying worked with us for the summer of 2004, providing invaluable assistance with various IT issues and Web site development. She came to the U.S. from China in 2001. She just graduated with a masters degree from Northeastern University in Information Systems. She has a B.A. in Medical Science from Chengdu Traditional Medicine University.

Mika Aoki was a senior at Bridgewater State College when she interned with us in the fall of 2004. She majored in Sociology. She is originally from Chiba, Japan, where she worked in Human Resources for 5 years.

Mary was a senior at Simmons College when she worked with us in the winter and spring of 2005. She carried a double major in Management and Economics, with a minor in Political Science. She is a first generation Cambodian-American and currently lives in Boston. She aspires to go to Law School.

 

Christine Huyn
PR Intern
Christine Huyn, from Houston, Texas, was a sophomore at Boston University when she worked with us in the winter and spring of 2005. She is majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Business Administration. She is a Vietnamese-American and currently lives in Boston. She plans to study abroad in London, England in the fall of 2005. Christine helped Fathers & Families prepare an initial plan for its public relations campaign.

 

Rosa Park
PR Intern
Rosa Park, from Vancouver, Canada, was a senior at Boston University when she worked with us in the winter and spring of 2005. She majored in Public Relations, with a concentration in American History. She is a Korean-Canadian and currently lives in Boston. She will be going to Fashion Institute of Technology in the fall of 2005 to study fashion-merchandising management. Rosa helped Fathers & Families prepare an initial plan for its public relations campaign.

 

Mili Thaker
PR Intern
Mili Thaker, born in Manchester, England and raised in Charleston, SC, was a senior at Boston University when she worked with us in the winter and spring of 2005. She studied Public Relations and French. She has also resided in Nairobi, Kenya and currently lives in Boston. She will be working in Washington, DC, as a Team Leader with the Intelligence, Diplomacy and National Security session of Lead-America, in the summer of 2005. Mili helped Fathers & Families prepare an initial plan for its public relations campaign.

 

Seth Henderson
Law & Social Sciences Intern
Seth was a second-year student at Suffolk Law School when he worked with us in the winter and spring of 2005. At Suffolk, he was a member of the National Trial Team. He grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and graduated from Gordon College where he majored in Philosophy and Psychology. An actor and musician, Seth lives on the North Shore with his dog Kudra.

 

Stanley Fevrier
Social Sciences Intern
Stanley Fevrier was born in Haiti, raised in Guadeloupe, and currently resides in Boston. He works for State Street Capital Markets and is pursuing a degree in Finance from Bentley College. As a spring 2005 Social Sciences Intern for Fathers & Families and for a college research project, Stanley wrote a paper on what helps to overcome parental alienation.

 

Brian Landry
Law & Social Scienes Intern
Brian worked for us parttime during the summer of 2005 and for the 2005-2006 academic year, when he was a second-year student at Suffolk University Law School. He was a member of the Journal of High Technology Law and the Student Bar Association. He was raised in Agawam, MA and earned a B.S. in Computer Science with high distinction from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Brian is an avid chef and outdoor enthusiast. He graduated in 2006. Brian's major project was a complete analysis of each state's custody law - perhaps the most detailed yet done - and the preparation of a lengthy article based on that analysis.

 

Michael Robertson
Law & Social Sciences Intern
Michael Robertson was a second year student at the Boston University School of Law when he worked for us full-time during the summer of 2005 as a work-study student. He holds a B.A. in International Relations from Tufts University. Michael lives in Boston and is a Red Sox fan. He served as a full-time intern with Fathers & Families for the spring and summer of 2005. His major project was the preparation of 2 lengthy memos about the potential unconstitutionality of custody decisions that take custody away from fit parents.

 

Karen Stevens
Law & Social Sciences Intern
Karen was a second-year student at Boston University School of Law when she worked with us during the summer of 2005. She received her Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Northeastern University in 2002, summa cum laude. After college, she worked at Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott LLC in Boston as a paralegal. She is originally from New Hampshire.

 

Josh McCabe
Public Relations Intern
Josh hails from the great city of Lowell. During his time with us, Josh was pursuing a degree in Political Science at Emmanuel College in Boston. He planned to go on to law school when he graduated. In addition to interning at Fathers & Families, Josh works part-time as a relief counselor for teenagers with substance abuse problems. He served as an Intern with Fathers & Families for the spring and summer of 2005. Josh's principal responsibility with Fathers & Families was production of a weekly email newsletter capturing interesting events at a local, state, national and international level.

 

Nate Gaede
Law & Social Sciences Intern
Nate is a second-year student at Boston College Law School. He earned his B.A. from Westmont College and has extensive corporate paralegal experience, working for Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr LLP and CMGI, Inc. He lives with his wife Idonia and dog Finnie in Brighton, MA. He served as an Intern with Fathers & Families during the summer of 2005.

 

Lindsay Blohm
Legal Intern
Lindsay Blohm was a third-year student at Harvard Law School when she worked with us during the spring of 2006. Ath Harvard Law, she was President of the Women's Law Association. She graduated with a B.A. magna cum laude from Georgetown University. She is joining Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw in Chicago upon graduation in June 2006. David Layfer, Brian Janovitz and she helped to develop a model custody law and gathered statistics on custody decisions across the United States.

 

Danielle Davis
Intern in Social Sciences & the Law
Danielle Davis was a graduate student at Simmons College in the School of Social Work. She has her M.A. in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts. She is from Boston. She is a divorced mother of three sons and one daughter. Her fall 2005 internship focused on an analysis of the actual cost of living for custodial and noncustodial parents living near the poverty line to assist the Administrative Office of the Trial Court as it considered the Child Support Guideline Revisions.

 

David Layfer
Legal Intern
David Layfer was a third-year student at Harvard Law School when he worked for us in the spring of 2006. Among other activities at Harvard Law School, he was active with the Human Rights Law Journal. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University. On graduating, David will join Sidley Austin Brown & Wood in Chicago. David, Brian Janovitz and Lindsay Blohm helped to develop a model custody law and gathered statistics on custody decisions across the United States.

 

Brian Janovitz
Legal Intern
Brian Janovitz was a third-year student at Harvard Law School when he worked with us in the spring of 2006. At Harvard Law he was a Line Editor with the Journal on Legislation and Event Director for the Women's Law Association. He graduated with a B.A. summa cum laude from the University of Florida. Upon graduation in June 2006, Brian joins the firm of Hogan & Hartson in Washington, DC. Brian, Lindsay Blohm and David Layfer helped to develop a model custody law and gathered statistics on custody decisions across the United States.

Kavetha is a first-year student at Simmons College majoring in Pharmacy and Chemistry with a long term goal of going to medical school. She has her own web-design/media applications business. She is helping Fathers & Families with its IT, web and computer software needs. Kavetha lives in Winchester, Massachusetts

 

Jesse Maddox
Marketing & Development Intern
Jesse Maddox served us full-time for the summer of 2006 as an AmeriCorps member. He came to us through the New Sector Alliance, a prestigious social-enterprise nonprofit that partners with leading academic institutions and businesses to delivery high quality, affordable consulting services. The NSA chose Fathers & Families as one of the initial nonprofits in Boston to receive an AmeriCorps member. From Marietta Georgia, Jesse is a junior at Brown University, majoring in Economics and Philosophy. He carries a 3.82/4.00 GPA with a 4.0/4.0 in his major. Jesse devoted his time with us to marketing and fundraising.

 

Kristan LaGuercia

Kristan LeGuercia worked for us parttime for the summer of 2006 during her senior year at Northeastern University. Majoring in international affairs with a minor in Law, Policy & Society, she plans on going on to law school.

 

Jonathan Nye
Legal Intern
Jon Nye worked for us as a legal intern during his second year at Suffolk Law School from May 2006 until May 2007, when he left for a summer fellowship in China. Jon did extensive legal research on move-away issues, domestic violence, and helped update our analysis of each state's custody statutes

 

Stephanie Sauer

Stephanie is a second year law student at New England School of Law. Stephanie received her BA in Communications with a minor in Legal Studies from George Mason University in Fairfax Virginia. She is originally from Newport News Virginia but currently loves living in Boston.

 

Joshua Deutsch
Legal Intern
Josh is a second year Harvard Law student working with us full-time with a grant from the Office of Public Interest Advising at the Harvard Law School. He graduated from Harvard College cum laude with high honors in his field. Josh is an avid historian and is a fan of most musical genres, especially jazz and classic rock. Raised in England, he firmly believes Americans should call soccer football.
